Three Formats of Cricket and Favourite Tournaments

Cricket fans in Bangladesh bet across formats from T20 to Test. Each format has its own rhythm — understanding that makes betting more enjoyable.

T20 Cricket

Dramatic changes happen every over. In BPL, IPL and the T20 World Cup, markets shift most often in this fast-paced format, which is why live betting is especially popular here.

ODI Cricket

Strategy is a little different in this 50-over format. For fans who follow the Bangladesh Tigers in ICC one-day series and World Cups, ODI betting is the most familiar experience.

Test Cricket

This five-day format is a test of patience and strategy. Wickets, run rate and pitch conditions can shift the balance of markets in every session.

Which tournaments can you bet on?

From Bangladesh fans' favourite BPL to India's IPL, the ICC T20 World Cup and bilateral international series — betting markets for all these tournaments are available at jangle. Betting on football and other sports is also available, but cricket has by far the widest range of markets and live updates.

The difference between cricket and football betting

In cricket, every ball is a separate event — when a wicket falls, a boundary is hit or an over changes, odds shift instantly. This creates a large number of markets within a single match. In football, goals are relatively rare, so odds move a little more slowly — though a half-time whistle or a red card can change the picture.

Sports like tennis, badminton or kabaddi have fewer markets and shorter match durations. In cricket — especially Test — markets run for days, which gives more opportunity for analysis.

At jangle you can bet on football and other sports alongside cricket, but cricket has the most markets and live updates by far. Treat betting as entertainment — follow the responsible gaming guidelines.

Popular Betting Markets — where and how to place your bets

Each market has its own characteristics. Below are seven main markets with simple examples.

Match Winner

Which team will win the match — this is the simplest market. If Team A's odds are higher they are the underdog; if Team B's odds are lower they are the favourite.

Most common

Toss Betting

You can bet on the outcome of the toss before the match starts. The odds on both teams in this market are usually close to each other.

Quick result

Top Run-Scorer

A bet on which player will score the most runs for a specific team in the match. Current form and pitch conditions are important to consider.

Skill-based

Total Runs Over/Under

Whether the combined runs of both teams will be above or below a set number — you bet over or under that line.

Analytical

Top Wicket-Taker

Which bowler will take the most wickets — pitch type and the bowler's recent form are important here.

Bowling focus

Multi Bet (multiple selections)

Several markets are combined into one bet. You only get a return if all selections are correct — one wrong selection loses the entire bet.

Higher return

First Over Runs

How many total runs will be scored in the first over of the match — you bet over or under a set number. This market is seen most often in T20.

Understanding Odds

Decimal, Fractional and American Odds

Betting platforms display odds in three formats. All three express the same probability — only the way they are presented differs.

Format Odds on Team A to win Odds on Team B to win (favourite) How to read it
Decimal 2.25 1.80 Total return = stake × odds (stake included)
Fractional 5/4 4/5 The top number is the profit, the bottom number is the stake
American +125 -125 Plus means profit on a ৳100 bet; minus means how much you must bet to make ৳100 profit

Example 1 — Underdog bet

Team A to win — decimal odds 2.25 (fractional 5/4, American +125). A ৳1,000 bet returns ৳2,250 if Team A wins (৳1,250 profit + ৳1,000 stake). If Team A loses, the full ৳1,000 is gone.

Example 2 — Favourite bet

Team B to win — decimal odds 1.80 (fractional 4/5, American -125). A ৳1,000 bet returns ৳1,800 if Team B wins (৳800 profit). The minus sign in American odds means you must bet ৳125 to make ৳100 profit.

Live

Live In-Play Betting — odds change on every ball

Betting while a match is in progress is called in-play or live betting. In cricket this is particularly engaging because every wicket, every boundary or a maiden over directly changes the odds.

Say Team A is batting and has lost 3 wickets in the first 10 overs — their odds of winning will drop and Team B's odds will rise. Conversely, if Team A scores quickly during the powerplay, their odds will shorten towards favourite.

In Test cricket, pitch wear, light conditions or a DRS decision can also affect in-play odds. There is less time to decide in live betting — so having a prior understanding of the markets helps.

Some useful tips for betting

Betting is a form of entertainment. Keeping these simple tips in mind helps keep the experience in order.

01

Set a budget

Decide how much you will bet on each match before you start. Never go beyond your budget — chasing losses by betting more is risky.

02

Understand one market well

Rather than spreading across many markets at once, start with straightforward markets like match winner or over/under. Move on to other markets once your understanding deepens.

03

Compare odds

Different odds may be available for the same market. Decimal format makes comparison easy — a higher number means more return, but also more risk.

04

Betting is entertainment, not a profession

Cricket betting adds to the enjoyment of the game — it is not a source of income. Read the responsible betting guide — set your limits and enjoy.

Questions about cricket betting

T20 has the most markets because the situation changes every over — powerplay runs, most sixes and many other options. ODI offers a moderate range of markets, with wicket and total runs markets being popular. Test offers session-based markets — such as how many wickets will fall in a specific session or the total runs in an innings.

A multi bet combines several markets and multiplies all the odds together. For example: if the odds on three selections are 1.60, 1.80 and 1.90, the combined odds are 1.60 × 1.80 × 1.90 = 5.47 (approximately). That means a ৳100 bet returns ৳547 if all selections are correct. But if one selection is wrong, you lose the entire ৳100 — so a multi bet offers higher returns but also much higher risk.

In in-play or live betting, odds update in real time according to match events. When a wicket falls, the batting team's odds immediately increase. A big six or boundary raises the bowling team's odds. Rain or a DRS decision also causes instant changes. Because of this speed, it helps to have a good understanding of the markets before placing live bets.

Both tournaments are played in T20 format, so the types of markets are much the same. However, because IPL is a larger tournament, the number and variety of markets may be slightly greater. Because BPL is Bangladesh's local tournament, there is more interest in the local teams. In both cases, common markets such as match winner, total runs and top run-scorer are available.

In American odds, a minus (-) sign means that team or side is the favourite. For example: American odds of -125 on Team B means you need to bet ৳125 to make ৳100 profit. In decimal odds that is 1.80. Conversely, a plus (+) sign means that side is the underdog — +125 means a ৳100 bet returns ৳125 profit.
